TOWN CONNECT DESK : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, setting the stage for a critical political showdown in the state. The elections will take place in a single phase, with voting scheduled for November 20 and the counting of votes on November 23.
As Maharashtra, a key political battleground, prepares to elect its next government, all 288 Assembly seats will be contested. The elections are expected to be a high-stakes competition between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Key Political Battle Between Alliances
The ruling Mahayuti coalition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), includes the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Eknath Shinde currently serves as Chief Minister, with Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers.
The opposition MVA alliance, which previously governed the state until political shifts in 2022, is preparing for a tough battle. It consists of the Congress, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT). The MVA aims to challenge the Mahayuti government on a range of issues, including economic and social concerns.
