MSRTC to Launch Vehicle Tracking System for Passengers Across Maharashtra

Date:

Pune : The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has introduced a new Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) that will allow passengers to track state transport buses in real time. Modeled after the Railway tracking system, this technology aims to provide users with updated information about bus locations and schedules.

The MSRTC has equipped over 16,000 buses with this modern VTS technology. Following multiple testing phases, the system has undergone technical adjustments to address errors and has successfully passed experimental trials. In addition, work is in progress to develop a mobile application that will enhance passenger convenience by providing information on seat availability and bus timings with a single click.

MSRTC buses connect urban centers to the remotest corners of Maharashtra. Ensuring the system’s functionality in rural areas presents challenges due to limited road infrastructure and internet connectivity. During initial tests, the VTS faced malfunctions in remote regions and areas with poor network coverage, such as hilly terrain, ghats, plateaus, and tunnels. To address these issues, the devices and GPS technology have been adapted for improved performance in such environments.

“For the convenience of passengers, GPS and modern systems have been installed in over 16,000 MSRTC buses statewide, including 850 buses in the Pune division,” said Pramod Nehul, MSRTC Pune Divisional Controller. “Testing and troubleshooting are ongoing, and this service will soon be fully operational. Passengers will be able to check waiting times and other details through a mobile app.”

The MSRTC’s initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing public transport accessibility and efficiency across Maharashtra.
