Pune (Daund): Pre-monsoon rains have begun across the region this month, bringing both challenges and relief to several villages in Daund tehsil. While some farmers have faced crop damage, villages in the non-horticultural areas of the tehsil have found much-needed respite from the rainfall. The meteorological department predicts an early monsoon this year, with rains starting in the first week of May, which typically occur in the last week of the month.
For the past eight days, pre-monsoon showers have been occurring. While these unseasonal rains have unfortunately destroyed crops like onions, wheat, and summer bajra in many Daund tehsil villages, they have also brought significant relief from the intense heat.
Rising Water Levels and Agricultural Benefits
Crucially, these pre-monsoon rains have brought some relief to non-horticultural villages such as Roti, Hingnigaon, Vasunde, Jiregaon, Kauthadi, Padvi, Khor, Kusegaon, and Deulgaon Gada. These areas have received good pre-monsoon rainfall, resulting in a significant increase in the water levels of wells and borewells.
The water levels in both small and large dams have also risen, ensuring sufficient water availability for drinking and agriculture. Farmers are also expressing satisfaction that this will help alleviate the problem of fodder for livestock.
