Pune : Residents of the Power House premises near Fursungi and Uruli Devachi are grappling with a severe water crisis due to contaminated water sources caused by a nearby garbage depot. With no pipeline connection from the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MGP), citizens are left to rely on water tankers, which arrive only once every 8-10 days. Local residents have warned of protests if immediate action is not taken to address the issue.
The garbage depot at Uruli Devachi has polluted the area’s water sources, leaving the growing population in Power House premises without a reliable water supply. Although some residents previously installed tap connections at their own expense, increasing demand has rendered the current system inadequate. A partial pipeline exists but lacks a connection to the MGP supply line originating from Tekdi. Citizens and local leaders are urging authorities to complete this connection to ensure consistent water availability.
Santosh Harpale, Vice President of BJP’s Madhya Haveli division, has called for swift action to lay the necessary pipelines. He warned that if the issue remains unresolved, local residents will take to the streets in protest.
In the meantime, residents are forced to store tanker water in barrels outside their homes or in communal spaces, which raises concerns about mosquito breeding and health risks. Harpale has emphasized the urgency of connecting the MGP pipeline to prevent further inconvenience and ensure a regular water supply for the affected area.
