Pune : Maharashtra is bracing for unusual weather with rain, thunderstorms, and minor hailstorms predicted on December 26 and 27. Meteorologists link this shift to snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and rainfall in northern India, which are drawing moisture from the Arabian Sea.
Overcast skies were already observed in parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on Monday. According to Krishnanand Hosalikar, Chief of the Pune Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected in Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik on December 26. The following day, districts such as Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, and Washim are also likely to receive rain.
Thunderstorms may occur at isolated locations across the state, with minor hailstorms anticipated in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions on December 27. Gusty winds are also expected in areas including Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Washim, and nearby regions.
Maharashtra has been experiencing cold wave conditions, affecting even Mumbai and Konkan. While cloudy weather on December 25 and 26 might provide temporary relief from the chill, temperatures are expected to drop significantly after December 30. Meteorologist Manikrao Khule has predicted an intensification of the cold wave by the end of the month.
