Pune : Despite the deadline extension to June 30 and repeated reminders from the state transport department, the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) in Pune is moving at a snail’s pace. Only 1.4 lakh vehicle owners in the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) have completed the process out of an estimated 25 lakh vehicles that need to comply with the mandate.
Officials and citizens are worried about the slow progress due to the limited infrastructure in place. With only 125 authorised centres across the district designated to install the plates, experts warn that it may take up to a year to finish the task at the current pace.
Citizens are facing logistical issues, delays, and a lack of available time slots, making it difficult for them to get their HSRPs installed. Many are concerned about a last-minute rush closer to the deadline, which could lead to chaos.
Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, acknowledged the challenges and assured citizens that efforts are being made to increase installation capacity. More centres are being proposed, and vehicle owners are urged not to wait until the last minute to book their appointments.
Urging Vehicle Owners to Act Promptly
Authorities continue to remind vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid penalties after the deadline and ensure compliance with the safety mandate. It is important for everyone to cooperate and get their HSRPs
